dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this project was to develop scripted lessons with immediate feedback to improve the accurate identification of note intervals among amateur college musicians. Four lessons were designed to focus on the discernment of musical interval pairs encountered in western music and taught in first semester college music theory courses. Two lessons incorporated familiar song references to aid interval identification. Eighteen volunteer non-music majors watched the four lessons presented live and via prerecorded video. Students scored high on all tests, demonstrating that they were able to accurately discriminate music intervals presented in the lessons. Recommendations for future lesson design and script testing are discussed. | en_US |
