| dc.description.abstract | A taxonomic and stratigraphic study of the Ostracoda from the Moodys Branch Formation of early Jacksonian age, at Little Stave Creek, Clarke County, Alabama, results in the recognition of two biotopes, an inshore, inner neritic facies represented by a glauconitic sand, and an offshore, middle to outer neritic facies represented by a calcareous silty marl. Fifty-three species of Ostracoda representing thirty-four genera are figured and described. Two genera and one species are described as new: Parisocythereis n. gen. and Tricarinicythere tricarinata n . gen. , n. sp . 'The inshore, glauconitic sand facies is characterized by Bairdia gosportensis, Brachycythere martini, Clithrocytheridea shubutensis, Cushmanidea alta, Cyamocytheridea hadleyi, Trachyleberis sp. Triginglymus hyperochyus, and Clithrocytheridea grigsbyi. The offshore marl facies is characterized by Brachycythere water-valleyensis, Bythocypris gibsonensis, Cyamocytheridea chambersi, Echinocythereis jacksonensis, Haplocytheridea montgomeryensis, Occultocythereis broussardi, and Konarocythere spurgeonae. | |
