Abstract

This research investigates a methodology to effectively assess the development of leadership training in the construction industry. The construction industry is one of the largest industries in the world and in order to stay competitive, engineering firms must find a way to train their employees to become qualified leaders in their specific discipline. A structured, efficient method of training leadership skills must be developed to provide construction and design professionals with the necessary information to become successful without sacrificing day-to-day productivity. Two leadership training methods were developed for this thesis research. In order to determine if these leadership training programs were successful, it was necessary to measure the effectiveness of these programs. The first aspect of this research focused on developing a delivery method for a leadership training development program. An efficient means by which to measure the effectiveness of the program was then addressed. Finally, the resulting data gathered from the program evaluations was analyzed in order to determine whether or not the program was successful in meeting its objectives. The result of the data analysis revealed that the leadership development program had significantly improved the leadership skills of the participating construction and design engineering professionals.
