WOMEN IN FRENCH exists to promote the study of women writers and women in civilization in the French-speaking world. An additional purpose of the organization is to share information and concerns about the status of women in Francophone countries and in higher education in North America. As an Allied Organization of the Modern Language Association, WOMEN IN FRENCH sponsors one session at each convention and at regional MLAs.

The current President of WIF is Stephanie Schechner, Widener University, Chester, PA; Vice President is Adrienne Angelo , Auburn University, Auburn, AL; Women in French Studies Editor in Chief is Cheryl Toman, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL; Women in French Studies Production Editor is Cecilia Beach, Alfred University, Alfred, NY; Treasurer is Amina Saidou, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA; Secretary & ListServ Manager is Anne Marcoline, University of Houston-Clear Lake, Houston, TX; and Newsletter Editor is Cheryl A. Morgan, Hamilton College, Clinton, NY. Representatives are elected in each of the seven MLA regions and one graduate student.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP: Category A: $40 US for Associate and Full Professors; Category B: $25 US for other members; Category C: $15 US for graduate students. Members receive the WIF Newsletter which is published twice a year in Spring and in Fall. Members also receive a copy of Women in French Studies, a refereed journal with selected articles by WIF members, in French or in English, and the electronic WIF Membership Directory, available on-line with a password. We publish the article by the winner of the WIF Studies Graduate Essay Prize, a competition open to all Ph.D. candidates.
