Item By A Thread: An Examination of Chattel Slavery at the Capstone(2017) Richardson, Athena F.; University of Alabama TuscaloosaThe institution of slavery played an integral role in the establishment and development of The University of Alabama. Although there are some records that remain, currently housed in Hoole Special Collections, it is difficult to determine the specific number of enslaved persons on campus, and what happened to them after emancipation.
